Uses of Concrete Pumps and Concrete Boom Pumps
Concrete is one of the most common building materials. It consists of aggregates combined by cement or concrete paste. The strength and quality of concrete depends on the materials and its process. To build good quality concrete, it should have the exact water and cement ratio.
Cement functions as the hydraulic mixer. This means it hardens from reaction with water. The smallest portion of the cement paste is in the range of micrometers, while the large ones (concrete paste) or the aggregate range to several centimeters.
Concrete pumps or concrete boom pumps are tools used for transporting liquid concrete through pumping.
Types: Boom pumps and Truck mounted pumps
There are two primary types of concrete pumps. The first one is a trailer-mounted boom pump. These tools are attached to a truck, which utilize a remote-controlled robotic arm or boom to place concrete with pinpoint accuracy.
Most engineers prefer concrete boom pumps in larger construction projects because they are more efficient in pumping at very high volumes. This saves more time and effort and considered as the best alternative to other larger truck-mounted boom pumps.
The second type is truck-mounted pump, also referred to as a "line-pump or trailer mounted pump." These large tools require specialized rubber or steel concrete to hold hoses that are manually linked to the outlet of the machine. The hoses are attached together and lead to wherever the concrete needs to be placed. There are also custom made line pumps that can be used for lower volumes such as sidewalks, swimming pools, and single family home sites or ground slabs.
Skid mounted and rail mounted
You can also make use of skid mounted and rail-mounted concrete pumps. These are also custom made tools and only used for specialized construction sites such as building tunnels, bridges and mining activities.
There are also piston-type pumps that can deal with several atmosphere and long projects. They are more durable and suitable to push different types of cylinders of heterogeneous concrete mixes or any cement with aggregate.
Things to consider
Check the quality of the equipment. Make sure that the linings are abrasion resistant. The amount of abrasion is measured by DIN 53516-the lower the measured value is the better quality and durability. The lifespan of the gear is also measurable with TH-volume of the conveyed materials. Generally, the best compounds for lining are natural rubber.
Check the cover of each gear or booms. They should also be abrasion and ozone resistant. The best examples of these compounds are synthetic rubbers.
Take note that the reinforcement depends on the pressure needed and the diameter of the inner layer of the hose. The standard working pressure is at least 85 bar or 1232 PSI. Check the pressure and burst meter. Burst pressure should be 200 bar or 2900 PSI.
Check if some parts are lacking. Concrete pumps and boom covers should have specialized screw to support the hose and the base system of the machine. This will help you avoid problems or malfunctions during construction.
